Denbigh Rugby Football Club was formed in February 1977, giving the town a senior rugby club considerably younger than its football and golf clubs. In 1993 the club amalgamated with North Wales Hospital RFC — the rugby club associated with the town's large former psychiatric hospital — and has been known since under its Welsh name, Clwb Rygbi Dinbych.
The club plays at Caeau Les Phillips on Graig Road in Denbigh, and remains part of the Welsh Rugby Union's community club structure, fielding sides that carry on a tradition of local rugby stretching back nearly half a century.
Rugby union has deep roots across Wales, and Denbigh's rugby club continues that tradition locally, fielding teams that compete in the North Wales leagues and providing a strong social and sporting focus for the town, particularly through the autumn and winter season. As with most Welsh town clubs, it draws heavily on local volunteers to keep training, coaching and matchday operations running.
The club also plays an important role in introducing younger players to the game through junior and mini-rugby sections, helping sustain the sport's popularity in the area for the next generation, and its clubhouse remains a popular social venue on match days.
