Like the rest of North Wales, Denbigh has a temperate maritime climate, moderated by the Atlantic and generally free of real extremes of hot or cold. Summers are mild rather than hot, with typical daytime temperatures in the region of 10–15°C, while winters are cool and often damp, with temperatures usually staying above freezing but rarely climbing much past single figures.

Rainfall falls fairly evenly across the year across the wider region, with a modest tilt towards wetter winters — so waterproofs are a sensible year-round precaution rather than a purely winter one. Wales as a whole is one of the wetter parts of the UK, and the hills of the nearby Clwydian Range tend to catch more rain and cloud than the lower Vale of Clwyd around Denbigh itself.

For most visitors, late spring through early autumn — roughly May to September — offers the most reliable combination of longer days and milder weather, and is the best season for walking in the Clwydian Range or exploring Denbigh Castle and the town walls in comfort. Outside those months, the castle and countryside can still be well worth a visit, just with an umbrella close at hand.

Late spring through early autumn (May to September) generally offers the most reliable weather for walking, castle visits and outdoor events, with long daylight hours making the most of a stay, while a clear winter's day can still reward visitors with crisp views from the castle walls or the summit of Moel Famau, without the summer crowds.
